Rigathi Gachagua (born 1965) is a Kenyan politician currently serving as the 12th Deputy President of Kenya. He previously served in multiple capacities in public administration such as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs & National Heritage, Personal Assistant to the Head of the Public Service, Personal Assistant to H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, who was then Minister for Local Government and as a District Officer.
He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County from 2017 to 2022 under the Jubilee Party. Gachagua ran for Deputy President in the 2022 Kenyan General Election as William Ruto's running mate under the United Democratic Alliance party, winning with just over 50% of the votes.
Early life and education
Rigathi Gachagua He was born in Hiriga village of Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County, being the eighth-born child of Nashashon Gachagua Reriani and Martha Kirigo. If you ever wonder why he is so tough, it is because he was born and raised by MAU MAU fighters in Mount Kenya forest. His father was a well praised important member of the mau mau for servicing guns.
